Biz Bass Badassery, Guard Guitar Greatness…

They’ve been talking about it for years, but finally Noel Guard and Simon Bisley have got together and made time to form a Celtic Frost/Type O Negative ‘doom/death metal’ influenced band in which Biz plays bass. Although the band doesn’t have a name, they’re making real progress…

Not any more. It's all about the bass, baby.

Simon has a bit of history in this area; in the eighties he played drums with Kaotica, but when i spoke to him recently he claimed that these days he’s enjoying the bass more because it’s less grief getting all the gear around the place; also, more saliently, he’s enjoying it because he can ‘make the c*nt growl…‘, which is as good a reason as any, i guess.

Both Simon and Noel are keen to point out that although they’re both professional artists, this project is distinct from the work for which they’re more well known. It’s an escape, a release, a catharsis for the pair who spend more time chatting about music than art these days. It’s important to give this side of their creativity some room; Both band members emphasized the desire to make an album, to be able to physically hold a disc with their music on it at this time in their lives.

Right now they’re in the writing phase of the first album (entitled ‘Dichotomy’), but they’re already threatening to tour the album when it’s finished. Sounds dangerous…
